Hectographic Paper VS Carbon Paper The difference is simple. Hectographic paper was developed specifically to create tattoo stencils and carries the right pigment for the job. Carbon paper was developed to copy writing or drawings between sheets. It was never made for skin contact and its pigments may not meet the safety and hygiene requirements of a tattoo studio. How To Use Hectographic Paper The method depends on how you make your stencil. Manual method: place your drawing over the hectographic paper and trace the lines with a pen, keeping consistent pressure. The pigment transfers onto the stencil sheet. Thermal method: remove the intermediate protective sheet, place the drawing and run it through the thermal copier. The stencil comes out identical to the drawing. Once the stencil is ready: Clean and disinfect the area of skin. Remove hair where necessary. Apply a thin layer of transfer gel or solution. Place the stencil on the skin without dragging it. Press for a few seconds and lift carefully. Let it dry before starting the tattoo.
