Technique improves with practice, which is why training materials are so important. A client’s skin is obviously not the right place to experiment.
That is exactly why synthetic tattoo practice materials exist: they replicate the texture and resistance of human skin, allowing you to test, make mistakes and improve without taking risks.
Whether you are taking your first steps or refining a new technique, tattoo training materials will become your best ally.
Which Training Material Should You Choose?
Training materials come in different formats depending on your learning needs.
Flat silicone sheets (available in A5, A4 and A3 sizes) are your daily practice field, ideal for improving line consistency, shadow transitions, colour saturation and depth control.
3D pieces (hands, arms, feet and backs) take your practice to the next level by allowing you to train on the curves and volumes of a real human body.
At the end, you can even display your 3D pieces as artwork in your studio.
How to Use Training Material
The stencil does not adhere properly to silicone unless the surface is prepared correctly.
First, clean the synthetic skin of your training material with isopropyl alcohol to remove the manufacturing oils from the silicone. Apply a thin layer of stencil transfer solution and allow it to dry before starting with your machine.
During practice, use a thin layer of Vaseline to help remove excess ink with paper without scratching or damaging the silicone.
